As a barrister – and devout Christian – Roy was frustrated by the law’s insistence that one side must always be ‘innocent’ and another ‘guilty’ – with little regard for the subtleties of conflict, or its many root causes. His reflections led him to Cyprus, where he gathered a team to work in the heart of the conflict in the 1960s.

That was the first CHIPS project. Now, over 50 years later, CHIPS has run projects across the world in countries such as Northern Ireland, the Philippines and Uganda. And while Roy is sadly no longer with us, his work lives on – led by our Director, Paul Maxwell-Rose, and supported by the Calvocoressi family.

True to our roots, we remain committed to reconciling communities and striving for peace.

We have four deeply held beliefs that underpin all we have done for over 50 years.
