It is with much sadness we announce the death on 21st September 2012 (remarkably the International Day of Peace!) of CHIPS Founder and Director Roy Calvocoressi at the age of 82 following a long illness. We rejoice that he is now with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Never afraid to question and challenge conventional thinking, following intensive Bible Study and prayer Roy pioneered the Ministry of Christian Peace-Making, first in Cyprus and then, most notably, in The Philippines, Uganda and most recently Ghana. Through Roy's vision and ministry many people in these different places, despite all they had suffered and the tension and mistrust, were able to forgive each other and to begin to live in peace.
Just three weeks ago CHIPS was delighted to appoint Paul Rose of CHIPS Ghana as the new Director of CHIPS. The ceremony was conducted at Roy’s bedside. Symbolically Roy presented Paul with his Coventry Cross of Nails, which had been presented to Roy and CHIPS in 1999.
We, the remaining Trustees, together with Paul, will continue to work to realise Roy’s remarkable vision.
Though CHIPS was surely Roy’s first commitment, his far-sightedness and remarkable commitment led him to being involved in many other Christian ministries, including being a co-founder of Traidcraft, Project Vietnam Orphans (now CORD) and the Langley House Trust.
We pray especially for Roy's wife Elfrida and his children Caroline and George, all of whom shared with Roy a deep and spiritual family bond.
